Turtle and His Friend Celebrate Spring

As the snow once again falls on the newly uncovered ground, I need to think "Spring".  It is out there somewhere, however, to expect that we were already done with snow in Northern Alberta before even the end of March is sheer lunacy!  And not good for the farmers either.  So although I pout as I once again bundle up my son in snow pants and winter coat for school, the snow is a good thing.  My card today reminds me that warmer days are soon to come.  My daughter picked out American Crafts blue skies collection to go with Turtle's Friend from Meljen's Designs.

The challenge this week at Simons Says Challenge is Easter or Spring with glimmer so the spots on Turtle's shell, his friend and his cheeks have been treated to Dazzling Diamonds from Stampin' Up!  The card's layout is from Papertake Weekly Challenge.  Turtle's Friend will also be entered into the challenges at Flutter By Wednesday (open), Secret Crafter Saturday (spring has sprung), and Crazy for Challenges (spring).

Rose and Melody - Flutter By Wednesday DT

Happy Wednesday!  This week Danni is letting creative freedom run wild with another open challenge at Flutter By Wednesday Challenge Blog.  The only requirement is that you must have a butterfly, fairy, or angel on your creation in order to enter!  This week I really wanted to play along with Paper Makeup's Makeup for the Weekend Challenge so I followed their challenge for my creations today.  This week's challenge at PMS is the complete opposite of my creation with Ally for last week's FBW - NO layers and UNLIMITED embellishments.  OUCH!  Well, I'll try almost anything once and I love their Beautiful Day Fairies by Diem Pascarella so I gave it a go twice!

My first attempt was Rose. 

She is coloured with copics, surrounded by Prima flowers with Recollections bling centers, and completed with a rub-on from Crate Papers.  Overall final impression, she's alright.  Too bad I don't feel the same about Melody! 

The colouring went well but perhaps I should have searched for the tutorial I thought I had seen a few months back before I got too adventurous with a finished image. Argh! I decided that I should be able to emboss the area around Melody by simply using an oval shape to stop an impression from forming over the image. Yeah, well, partial success. The impression was not as strong, but perhaps I should find that tutorial! So I used some chalk to hopefully lesson the visual impact of the embossing on the center and added an organza bow across the top.  I added stickles to her wings, hair, shoes, and underskirt.

The sentiment for the inside is just beautiful - you'll have to read the whole thing on the Paper Makeup Stamps blog but it starts off  "Sing like no one is listening..." .

Meljen's Designs

I stumbled across Meljen's Designs on PaperCraft Planet almost a month ago now.  I was scouting potential sponsors for Paper Sundaes and fell in love with her cute designs.  There was an open design team call and I decided to take a chance and applied.  The design team call closed March 17th and the waiting began.  It's the waiting that drives me crazy!  I was esctatic Sunday when I was asked to join the team - Eeek!  Meljen's Designs Challenge and Inspiration Blog made the announcement late last night.

So, why wait another day before sharing my news with all of you?  To give me time to create of course!  I wanted to have a couple Meljen's Designs cards ready to show off. 

First I want to share with you Cherry Mouse. 

Cherry Mouse will be entered into the Tutti Frutti challenge at Basic Grey Challenges and the food and drink challenge at Cupcake Crafts.

I love frogs so Melissa's Froggy Pad was one of my first purchases.

The sentiment is completed on the inside of the card.

I wanted to showcase the versatility of Melissa's designs by featuring one simple card and one more elaborate. Froggy's Pad follows the current sketch at Inspirational Card Sketches whereas Cherry Mouse simply followed it's own path to creation.  Froggy's Pad will be entered into the something for the kids challenge at Charisma Cardz - this card is for a four year old little girl whose party my daughter missed this past weekend.

Going My Way?

This week's challenge at Karen's Doodles US Challenge Blog is Fancy Folds - anything except a simple card folded in half!  I decided to create a gate card with the current sketch at Sketch Saturday and Karen's adorable Cruisin' couple:

It took me a couple weeks and several scrapbook stores to find just the right paper for this image.  I wanted the card to be just right as a belated anniversary card for my darling hubby.  He likes to joke that he had to marry me when I didn't complain after the last couple hours of our May long weekend motorbike ride was completed in a downpour at highway speeds.  We were forced to call for assistance and leave the bike an hour south of the city with a friend as another friend came and drove us home.  As Spring returns, hubby once again begins to scour for sale ads for his next bike.

I paper pieced her shirt and pants and followed the sketch at Sketch Saturday.  I also used the same sketch when I paper pieced my hAnglar & stAnglar couple for an anniversary card.

I kept the embellishments to a minimum (lace and stitching) to draw the attention to the beautiful images.  The background was lightly coloured with Stampin' Up! chalks.  The sentiments on the inside are from two different Stampin' Up sets:

A pinch of Sassy and a dash of Innocence

As a member of Sassy Cheryl's PaperCraft Planet group, I recently enjoyed a freebie for her members for reaching 300.  The sassiness of this little miss "All the Frills" is true Cheryl-style and why I adore her images!  I pictured this little princess digging into a tickle trunk of Mommy's old clothes - which in my case would be circa 1980s - with neons and black.  I actually owned a pair of red glasses! 

The sketch is designed by Claudia Rosa for Friday Sketcher Challenge.  On the other end of the attitude scale, I have some Pure Innocence to share.  This little angel is ready for Spring with her posies and butterflies.

I took a break from my copics to pick up my Lyra polycolor pencils.  The papers are perfect for all the Spring challenges out there although I have her picked for a special Spring birthday.

Belle in the Garden

This morning my friend Christine tells me to "hurry up and take a picture of your Belles outside!"  No real explaination, no further instructions, but knowing she has her reason, I go outside in my pjs and hubby's shoes with my Belles and place them in the garden.  Mine are Christmas stamps from the Belles n' Whistles line and should be quite at home in the chilly outdoor air with freshly fallen snow around them.  They are in my hosta beds next to my most loved Oak tree to provide them with shade.  Of course, don't you worry, after I took the picture, I hurried them back inside to the warth of my house in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada!!!
Then I looked at the Belles n' Whistles blog and finally understood.  So here is Belle in the Garden:

The Kindness of Others

Would you help a complete stranger?  Someone you didn't know, say, the neighbour of a cousin's son in another country?  And what if that someone asked you to order something for them from another country, have it sent to your house, and you would need to re-address the package and forward it on to another country?  Then what if the order got caught in your junk e-mail repeatedly so that there was not a sale confirmation until the third attempt at ordering?  What if you were paying out of pocket and getting reimbursed and it is $300 and you have to take the time to drive to the bank and make the payment at the branch?

At what point would you have said that it was simply not worth the hassle?

In all honesty, I'm not sure I would have done it.  Now having received such kindness from a complete stranger in Norway, I would probably go all the way to the finish.  This wonderful lady took time from her life to help me.  I owe her a huge thank you!  For thanks to her kindness, I am now the extremely proud owner of eleven hÄnglar & stÄnglar stamps!  This card was specifically created for this unknown stranger who showed me an enormous amount of kindness.

The sentiment is from Close to My Heart Card Chatter - Thank You and was also used on the inside of the card to complete the sentiment.

Cloudy with a chance of Sassy

A tad obsessed, I waited up last night to see if Sassy Cheryl's new digis would go up for sale before I headed to bed.  Bad idea.  They were for sale, and once in my hands, I couldn't wait until morning to begin colouring!  So with no paper in front of me (DH was threatening to shut off the TV and go to bed if I got up just one more time!), I picked a lively orange/yellow/green combo.  Imagine my surprise when this morning's challenge at Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog was announced as green/orange/black and glitter AND I found paper that fit the bill in my stash!  Now to share, the sassy April Showers from Sassy Cheryl's and sentiment from Paper Makeup:

Fairy Tale Tilda

Tomorrow marks the release on video of Disney's The Princess and The Frog which is a MUST for my collection.  It was the first movie hubby and I ever took our daughter too.  Unfortunately we learned from that experience that she will not sit through a movie in the theatre - at home, yes, at the theatre, definately NOT!  So in celebration, I have to share with you tonight, Fairy Tale Tilda which I ordered from Magnolia-licious.  She arrived less than a week after I ordered her - I was so impressed with Diana...and Canada Post.  My daughter decided that she needed to wear a yellow dress and I coloured her hair to match my little princess.

I used my precious Wild Orchid flowers for this card, but then, nothing but the best for Tilda!  This week's challenge at Lili of the Valley is easel cards, so:

Ta Da!  I love this image so it was easy to decide that she needed to be showcased in an easel card.  The sketch on the front is this week's challenge at Friday Sketchers and she was coloured with my beloved copics using both the caucasian skin and red hair techniques from Copic Creations.  Tilda will also be entered into the challenges at Cute Card Thursday (celebrations - birthday should count), Fussy and Fancy (green), Cupcake Crafts (going green), and The Pink Elephant (spring - colours).  Wow, Tilda should be happy with that list!

Basket of Bunnies - DT

With all the snow on the ground melting, it is easy to get into the mood for this week's theme of Easter/Spring at Karen's Doodles United States Challenge Blog.  I am excited to share with you this BRAND NEW Karen's Doodles image, Basket of Bunnies!  Lucky me, Karen decided to share it with her design team first.  I had actually coloured a different image for this challenge but when I saw these adorable bunnies, I couldn't resist!

Aren't they ADORABLE!!!  I just love their big eyes and cute ears.  I used this gorgeous "Christmas" paper (that still brings a smile to my face!) from Magenta once again.  I love the deep colours and tried to use them on the flowers but I think I'll stick to softer flowers next time.  The inside has the same basic layout.

Paper Sundaes Ninth Challenge

Another Happy Sunday!  I definately had a wonderful mail week with rubber arriving from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps (whose new release is out TODAY!), Magnolia-licious (amazing shipping considering that I ordered last Saturday and had them Thursday!), and Paper Jewels (Sweet Peas are now in stock!).  Wow!  So with all that new rubber, I decided to colour...a digital image.

This week's challenge at Paper Sundaes Challenge Blog is a combination of a theme and a technique.  They want you to create a multi-fold card with an Easter or Spring theme.  I chose to do a tri-fold card based on the tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers.  The image is the absolutely adorable A Present for Mom which is perfect for Easter, Spring, Mother's Day or just 'cause I love you Mom days!

Using the Stampin' Up butterfly die I cut out a writing space from white cardstock.  Folded up the card will fit in a standard A2 envelope.

Another Sassy Card

I've been having a blast hanging out with the Sassy gals on PaperCraft Planet.  We share cards, praise, support, and copic chatter.  The last topic inspired Cheryl to create Marker Girl for all her copic crazed fans, including me.  I had to buy it and use it for this week's sketch challenge at the Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog. 

The image is coloured with copics, of course, matched to the Basic Grey Lemonade paper.  However when it came time to put the card together based on the sketch, it fought back.  The bold patterns and bright colours clashed horribly as I tried to mat layers and find a base.  So, mats disappeared and out came white cardstock for a base.  Then came the sewing to give it a little something!  The flowers are two different sized circles cut with my Spellbinders Nestabilities, wet with water, scrunched into submission, un-scrunched and left to dry on the counter overnight.  Final step was to put the layers together, top with a Stampin' Up button,  and attach with Close to My Heart waxy flax.  One flower was put on the front and another on the inside.

The butterflies were a last minute addition to hide some uh-ohs and were punched from unused flower layers that had been scrunched and dried.  Marker Girl will be entered into the challenges at Cupcake Crafts (flower power), A Spoon Full of Sugar (recycle - butterflies were punched from flower layers), Charisma Cardz (butterflies), and Secret Crafter Saturday (anything goes).

Flutter By Wednesday Celebrates 100

Today is an extremely special Flutter By Wednesday as it marks the 100th FBW Challenge!  To celebrate Danni asked the DT to stay true to the blog's origins and showcase butterfly creations.  The lovely Karen thought up a special surprise for Danni...butterfly boxes! 

For those of you out in blogland who don't know Danni from Danni's Dreams, you should take a moment to visit her blog and leave her a "hi".  She is one of the nicest people that I have met out there.  Danni always sends positive e-mails to the group after each challenge and she spends an enormous amount of time running FBW and complimenting on so many blog entrants.  Thank you Danni for taking a chance on me, for inviting me on as first a guest designer, and then as a DT member, even though I had no blog history and extremely few followers at the time.  Thank you for always being there for me and offering an encouraging word.  You are amazing and these creations are for you!

Karen sent the entire DT templates for these boxes which are very easy to make.  The template is from QBee on Splitcoast Stampers and all the information can be found here.  I used retired Stampin' Up! paper and their butterfly die to accent the box.

My Tildas have been begging for attention so I made a matching tent card following the tutorial at Just Magnolia which will be entered into their challenge.

Karen's Doodles US Challenge - DT

Good morning!  Today I am going to start the week off on a positive note by encouraging everyone to play along with the first ever Karen's Doodles US Challenge.  This first challenge is a sketch challenge:

I decided to create two Mother's Day cards with this sketch.  For my mother I chose the Pretty Unicorn image from Karen's Doodles:

This image comes with several individual flowers which can also be printed to embellish your card.  I chose to play with one of my newer purchases from Wild Orchids and to embellish the corner with Basic Grey bling rhinestones.

On the inside I typed a message for my Mom:

The second card is for my darling hubby's mother who loves the colour red.  I've chosen Karen's Just for You image for my mother-in-law:

My mother-in-law likes things plain and simple, so that is what I've done on the inside.  No sentiment and lots of room for my hubby to write a note to his mom:

Paper Sundaes Eighth Challenge

Oh Happy Sunday!  Not only do I have another Paper Sundaes Challenge creation to share, I also need to direct your attention to Magnolia-licious who has the Wedding and Pirate collection in stock!  I placed my order last night and I stuffed my cart full of Tilda and Edwin images only previously seen in the Spring 2010 Magnolia Ink magazine.

Back on topic...this week one of the lovely design team members and CTMH consultant, Shanna, has chosen the colour combination of Crystal Blue, Hollyhock, and Sweet Leaf for this week's challenge at Paper Sundaes.

Luckily I stumbled across the gorgeous Flutter Collection by Making Memories which fit the colour challenge and happily coloured this little beauty from CC Designs Spring Collection:

I used Close to My Heart adhesive backed half pearls and On Target dimensional elements to add dimension and texture to the card. 

The inside of the card features a sentiment from the CTMH acrylic stamp set Card Chatter - Thank You stamped in Sweet Leaf.
